ACTIVITIES IN NOVEMBER 2010

Time has been running quickly... It is November now, even it's been the fourth week of the month. There have been some activities done at Independent English Course Bogor.

The intensive English training programme at United Tractors School Jakarta for batch III finally finished on Friday 19 November. On the last two days, the students presented their prepared papers in front of the audience which includes students, English teachers and even UT lecturers. The students looked eager as well as anxious but the paper presentation could finally run well.

In November 2010 Independent students explores MODESTY (some others say simplicity) as one of the 12 living values that needs to be learnt and applied. To live in modesty has a lot of aspects such as honesty, accountability, generousity, self-acceptance and so on.

This month some new students join Independent. Some of them come from another English course in Bogor... They decided to move to Independent as their old English course is going to be closed. Independent's management, staff and other students welcome them. We hope that the new students will enjoy their study here.

LIVING VALUE 4: TOLERANCE

The living value campaign this month is TOLERANCE.

In our daily life, we usually use the word "tolerance" only when we talk about religious relationship. Actually, tolerance is not limited to religions only. Tolerance, which derives from a Latin word "tolere", means an activity to lift the burdens, the suffering, the challenges and difficulties together. Tolerance can be understood as well as an attitude to understand and respect others although we have different opinions, different arguments, different choice and so on.

Here are some values that students can learn and apply:
  • We are all unique and have something valuable to offer and share.
  • Tolerance is accepting others and appreciating differences.
  • Tolerance is accepting myself even when I make mistakes.
  • Peace is the goal; tolerance is the method.
  • Tolerance is being open and receptive to the beauty of differences.
  • The seeds of intolerance are fear and ignorance.
  • The seed of tolerance, love, is watered by compassion and care.
  • To tolerate life's inconveniences is to let go be light, make others light and move on.
  • Tolerance recognizes individuality and diversity while removing divisive masks and defusing tension created by ignorance.
  • Tolerance is the ability to face difficult situations.

There are some assessments such as: course administration, organization, teaching and learning process, etc.

Independent English Course Bogor has been appointed to take part in "Lomba Keteladanan Kursus" in Kota Bogor this year. The evaluating team will visit Independent on Thursday 25 March 2010. For Independent, it is an honour. Winning or not is not a problem for Independent. The process will help Independent to improve the performance. Friday, 5 February 2010

LIVING VALUE 2: LOVE

In January 2010 Independent English Course Bogor campaigned the first living value: Peace. Some discusions and other activities were held in the classrooms.

This month, February, we continue the campaign with the second living value: LOVE.

We want to find out some answers to these questions: what is love? Do we need love? Why do we need love? What can love do? What if the world is without love? Can we give love to others? How to give love to others? What is not love?... and many other questions. Some activities would be conducted so that all students and staff at Independent English Course Bogor will live in love...

LIVING VALUE 1: PEACE

In January 2010 Independent English Course takes 'PEACE' as the first campaign of living values to learn, explored, discussed and applied. All students take part in this campaign. The activities include: writing poems, singing songs, designing posters, drawing, writing papers/compositions, discussing in classrooms, sharing experiences, etc.

There are some things to explore and expose this month such as:
1. What is peace? What do you know about peace?
2. Is there peace around you?
3. Is there peace in you?
4. Is peace important?
5. If it is important, how can we create peace?
6. What can we do now?

We hope that all Independent students and staff will learn much from this campaign and this will be useful in life.
